7 Major Roads to Know in Kunshan, China

There are 7 major roads you’ll need to familiarize yourself with when living in Kunshan. Luckily Kunshan is fairly easy to navigate and it’s guaranteed that you’ll run into these roads. They’re all located within a short span of each other and inside Kunshan’s city center. 

North & South

About those streets that run North and South ...

Bailu Road

Bailu Road is probably the second most important street in Kunshan. The street runs North and South through the city center and connects to both the Kunshan South Railway Station and Kunshan Long-Distance Bus Station. Additionally, Bailu Road is arguably Kunshan’s busiest street. It’s loaded with shops, apartments, bars, massage parlors, and the worst drivers in the city at all hours of the day. 

Changjiang Road

Changjiang Road runs North and South and is directly adjacent to the Kunshan City Hall building. It’s a very wide street and it’s riddled with mostly apartment buildings, hotels, and parks.

Huanghe Road

Huanghe Road is a street loaded with shops, small restaurants, and a DVD store. The street has gone through many changes over the years but remains one of the city’s busiest roads. You’ll want to go there just for its selection of local Chinese food and its DVD store.    ​

Beimen Road

Beimen Road is another popular and endlessly busy shopping street in Kunshan. The road is stacked with clothing and fashion accessory stores, as well as a McDonald’s. If you’re looking for clothes that are inexpensive but of quality, Beimen Road is certainly one of the best places to visit. The stores’ best items are jackets and coats, and they are full of them come winter. In addition, Beimen Road is also notoriously crowded, noisy and full of heavy traffic, so, make sure to watch your surroundings and stay out of the bike lane!

Renmin Road

​Renmin Road is Kunshan’s most popular shopping street. Here you can find everything from clothes, fashion accessories, electronics, video games, books, cosmetics, and merchandise, to a boatload of dining and entertainment facilities, which include restaurants, local fast food shops, Shangsha Mall, cinemas, and a few after-hours spots. This street is always crowded on any given day of the week and traffic is often a nightmare. With that being said, make sure you have a destination and get to it as quickly and safely as possible. East & West

Qianjin Road

Qianjin Road is the most important street in Kunshan. The street runs East and West through Kunshan's city center and intersects with many popular roads including Changjiang Road, Huanghe Road, Bailu Road, Renmin Road, and Tinglin Road. Qianjin Road is also home to plenty of Kunshan’s prominent landmarks such as the City Hall building, Kunshan Exhibition Center, Kunshan Convention & Exhibition Center, Civic Park, Kunshan Library, Swissotel, Great Wall International Plaza, Parkson Plaza, Kunshan Stadium, and Kunshan Culture & Art Center.   

Xaolin Road

Xoalin Road is the last major street north of Qianjin Road that runs East and West. The street is equipped with Lotus Supermark, Nine Square Mall, and connects to Beimen Road. Head North past Xiaolin Road and you’ll run into nothing but factories, highways, and empty patches of land.
