For those of you Kunshan expats that are involved in relationships, looking to impress a potential boyfriend or girlfriend, or simply wondering where to celebrate a birthday or Valentine’s Day with a special someone, here’s a list of cool places and things to do in Kunshan that are great for a well-planned date or spur of the moment adventure. DINE ON ASIAN & WESTERN CUISINE AT WINDSOR PARK HOTEL Windsor Park Hotel is a great place to dine, grab a drink, and listen to live music. Located on the 1st floor of the Windsor Park Hotel, items on its Western/Asian menu include salad, soups, lamb chops, t-bone steak, curry rice, shrimp fried rice, Formosa beef noodles, seafood porridge, beef burgers, ham and cheese sandwiches, pizza and pasta, onion rings, chicken wings, cheese plates, Japanese entrees, deserts, and more. The best part of the restaurant is its intimate atmosphere. The lighting is dim and thin veils and stringy curtains separate table areas rather than doors. On top of that, head there between Mon.-Sat. to enjoy drinks and smooth tunes from its live band and you're almost guaranteed to get some! Hours: Live band is from 6:15pm to 8:10pm, and 9:00pm-11:00pm Monday to Saturday Windsor Park Hotel Kunshan Address: 198 Changjiang Zhong Lu BOWLING AT KUNSHAN SPORTS CENTER oR KUNSQUAREIf you’re looking for activities in Kunshan try heading over to the bowling alley located at Kunshan Sports Center, which is just across the street from Forest Park. It's pretty modern and is equipped with a large pool hall for extra fun. Prices are reasonable, but just make sure to eat before you head there, unless you want your date to munch on chips and soda for dinner. Kunshan Sports Center Address: No. 1519 Ma’anshan West Rd. 体育中心保龄球馆昆山市马鞍山西路1519号 KunSquare Mall Address: 1128 Renmin Road 昆山市人民南路1128号 WATCH A PLAY OR SHOW AT KUNSHAN CULTURE & ART CENTER If you have enough time to plan ahead make sure to check out the Kunshan Culture & Art Center, which is located on the westside of Kunshan, just down the street from Forest Park. The center host domestic and international musical performances, plays, and entertainment shows. You can find the schedule for upcoming events at the KCAC website. Kunshan Culture & Art Center Address: No. 1850 Qianjin West Rd. 昆山市艺术文化中心昆山市前进西路1850号(体育中心旁) GO TO A SKATING RINK If you’re looking for a nice place for a literal romantic stroll, try heading over to the skating rink on the 3rd floor of Shimao Plaza. It's a bit small in size, but decent. A word of caution though: The biggest size skates at the skating rink in Kunshan are size 44. If you're shoe size is bigger, don’t waste your time heading there unless you have your own skates! Shimao Plaza in Kunshan Address: No.199 Qianjin East Rd Kunshan 昆山世茂广场 昆山市前进东路199号 STAY OVERNIGHT AT AN ANCIENT WATER TOWN Kunshan is famous for its ancient water towns. If you’re up for the adventure, head for an one night’s stay at Zhouzhuang or Jinxi Ancient Water Town. Go there in the late after-noon, check-in at your hotel, head out to eat dinner at a restaurant in the surrounding area or inside the water town itself, then cap the night off by having a few drinks under the lights along the ancient town canals. The next day, take some time to explore the ancient town and take plenty of photos. Finally, hop on the bus and head back to Kunshan in the afternoon. Zhouzhuang Address: Qing Ping Shanghai Highway, Kunshan 215300, China Quanfu Rd. Zhouzhuang Town 周庄昆山周庄全福路 Jinxi Town Address: Jinxi Town, Kunshan 215324, China 锦溪 昆山市锦溪镇 HEAD TO AN ARCADE If you're young and looking for a little playful fun, arcades are a great way to enjoy your night out aside from the typical bar, club and KTV settings. They usually have car racing, dancing, sports, and other competitive games. You can find Arcade venues at Shimao Plaza and Auchan Plaza. I suggest heading to Shimao Plaza; there’s an arcade, go-kart racing, and skating rink. Shimao Plaza in Kunshan Address: No.199 Qianjin East Rd 昆山世茂广场 昆山市前进东路199号 WATCH A MOVIE Movies are always a great resort if you fail to find anything “spectacular” to partake in. Kunshan is loaded with movie theaters in every direction. You can check out a full listing of movie theaters in Kunshan and their show times at the MTime website. You’ll need to use Google Chrome to translate the pages! *You can also search for movie theaters in Kunshan near you by going to WeChat > WeChat Pay > Movie Tickets. TAKE AN AFTERNOON STROLL AROUND TINGLIN PARK Tinglin Park is good for a leisurely stroll, some fun activities, and plenty of decent looking scenic views. Heck, it even has a small zoo and amusement park. You can't go wrong brining a date there! Entrance: 20RMB. Zoo & amusement rides cost extra. Bicycles and pets are not allowed. Tinglin Park Address: No.1 Ma'anshan Road, Kunshan 215300 亭林公园昆山市马鞍山路1号 GET A MASSAGE So, maybe you want to treat your date to some ultimate relaxation excursion. You want to soothe their aching feet? Check. Loosen up their body? Check. How about simply unwinding in a sauna? Hell yeah! If you’re looking for a simple but good massage for about an hour’s length, expect to spend anywhere between 88-150RMB. If you’d like more sophisticated massages, like a Thai massage, expect to pay far more. Here are the addresses for two message parlors that I recommend (Sorry I couldn't get the Chinese!). Check these addresses on Google Maps: Address #1: 300 Bailu N Rd, Kunshan Shi, Suzhou Shi, Jiangsu Sheng, China, 215300 Address #2: 2号-36 Bai Tang Lu, Kunshan Shi, Suzhou Shi, Jiangsu Sheng, China (At the intersection of Baitang Lu & Kun'tai Lu) VISIT BACHENG'S DREAM OF WATER, WATER PARK Did you know Kunshan has a water park? Well, sort of. It's actually located in Bacheng and is dubbed the Dream of Water, Water Park. It's loaded with fun water activities and amusement rides to thoroughly enjoy on a hot summer’s day. Trust me, make this one a priority! Note: It's not an all-year round park, so make sure to check its schedule before heading over. And you'll have to ask your Chinese friends for the address! VISIT NEARBY ATTRACTIONS Maybe you’re not satisfied. Kunshan doesn’t offer enough ‘spice’ for a romantic adventure, so you wish to explore other options. Well, there are plenty of fancy tourist stops riddled across cities along the Shanghai-Nanjing railway line. Here’s a list of a few. 1. Humble Administrator's Garden - Suzhou 2. Grand Buddha at Lingshan – Wuxi 3. Westlake – Hangzhou 4. Dinosaur Amusement Park – Changzhou 5. The Bund - Shanghai HEAD TO THE DVD STORE & HAVE A MOVIE NIGHT AT HOME So let’s say all else fails, time is running out, and you’re out of options. Well, why not head to a DVD store and pick out a movie or two? Or how about a TV series? Remember when renting a DVD from Blockbuster DVD used to actually be a trend? Hey, it's still cool! Kunshan has about 3 DVD shops that I know of and they’re usually up-to-date with the latest films and TV Shows from the Western world. DVDs are usually around 6RMB per DVD. A single season of a television series may contain 3 discs, meaning you’d pay 18RMB, or about $3. Incredible! Kunshan DVD Store Address: 44 Huanghe Road / 361 Tongfeng Road.
