You Want to See a Cool Chinese Temple? Well Check Out Kunshan's Huiju Temple!

You want to see a cool and authentic Chinese Temple? One that you can take enough Instagram pics of to last for a week? Well then you need to check out Huiju Temple in Kunshan! 

First up, after my trip to Huiju Temple I'd say I was pretty surprised that it hadn't been advertised as one of the top attractions in Kunshan. 

Huiju Temple's got everything you're looking for in a traditional Chinese temple--several highly decorative ancient looking buildings, dozens of eye-catching statues of Buddhist deities, and lots of prominent pieces of art depicting popular mythological figures in Chinese culture. 

In fact, the first item you'll catch at the temple is a large traditional looking Chinese gate. You know you're in good hands when the gate to a temple is worthy of a couple of pictures alone. 

​Move further in and you'll spot a few small bridges, a large and incredibly detailed picture etched into concrete, a couple of highly decorative "totem-pole" like columns, and plenty of exceptionally detailed religious statues. And that's just the entrance!

Then there's the passageway for the first temple, which is decked out with Chinese lanterns, a whole lot of vibrant and colorful paintings, and is “guarded” by two religious figures. I've never found out why some Buddhist statues of are a different hue, but I've always found it pretty intriguing. *P.S. If you know why please tell me in the comments!*

So lets get to the first temple ...

Inside the first temple sits a statue of a heavyset and cheerful looking Buddha--by the way, that's one of the happiest Buddhist statues I had ever seen! 

What I also found especially mind-blowing was the amount of detail given to the patterns and artwork lining its ceiling. I had seen plenty of remarkable artwork on temples in China before but never so incredibly rich. Props to the designers!

And the party didn't stop there. The next temple would prove to be even better.

The next temple housed another large sitting statue of Buddha covered in gold. ​

What's more, there were​ about a dozen smaller sculptures of various Buddhist figures striking different poses. It just seemed like Huiju Temple just kept getting aesthetically better the further you went in. 

And finally, the third and last temple. And what did it have? 

​More Buddhist statues, yes, but far more intricate and attractive paintings and carvings not just than in any of the previous halls, but in any temple I've seen across China.
