China Expat & Travel Blogger. ATTRACTIONS & THINGS TO DO IN CHINA. See My Fun TRAVEL Adventures in China!
Dear China, for once could you please hold the ‘Méiyŏu?’ It seems just about every week that I, an American expat teaching English in China for the past 6 years, stumble upon what seems like one of the country's cruelest ongoing jokes: ‘Méiyŏu-gate'.
A guy once tried to stab me in China—Shanghai, to be specific. No kidding, he pulled out a pocketknife and made multiple swings towards my head. And in all honestly, it was partly my fault.
China can be a very DANGEROUS place when it comes to road safety. In a population of over 1.3 billion people with access to bicycles, cars, trucks, motorcycles, buses, and scooters, it’s not uncommon to find DROVES of individuals driving recklessly, breaking traffic laws, and putting lives at risk just to get ahead on traffic. And yeah, that includes foreigners too!
"Woop-Woop. That's the sound of the police!" A foreigner getting a traffic ticket in Shanghai, who'd a thought? Yep, it happened to me just twice since I moved to the big city at the start of 2016.
