Yes, yes, yes, I finally found Shanghai’s Salon Equipment Market in Puxi! Here’s the rundown of what you can expect if you’re looking for hair clippers/barber clippers in Shanghai.
Shanghai’s salon equipment market is loaded with shops that provide everything from hair care products and accessories, hair clippers, flat irons, hair straighteners, and electric shavers, to weaves, make-up kits, and decorative items to include in salons and barber shops. It ‘s a market for both men and women.
I ended up needing a new pair of hair clippers myself after my Wahl T-Outliners (from the States) burnt out when I tried a new electric adapter I had bought at a local supermarket in Shanghai.
I searched online and heard about the salon equipment market from expats who were also in need. To make a long story short, two websites managed to point me in the right direction as to where the salon market was located in Puxi, but I ended up finding it myself after discovering that the wrong EXACT location had been posted. Here’s some info about getting hair clippers at the Shanghai salon equipment market in Puxi, Shanghai, near People’s Square.
So you’ll find a decent selection of hair/barber clippers at the salon equipment market in Shanghai. They have plenty of local brands up for sale, as well as brands from South Korea, Germany, Japan, and America.
Many shops offered a variety of Wahl clippers ranging from 70rmb to 1,000rmb. I bought the clippers shown down below for only 95rmb, though I did see them for 88rmb in another store.
I also saw two shops offering Wahl Super Taper I clippers for around 650rmb.
Furthermore, you should know as a Black man I went over to the area specifically looking for clippers I could used for a sharp looking shape-up (line-up), They didn’t have a wide variety to choose from in this category outside of Wahl Stylique Trimmers and other small trimmers. I ended up buying the trimmers down below for 60rmb. They are EXCELLENT for shaving a getting some shape-up work done.
Some shops let me try the clippers in the store, as well. I’d only shave off a few centimeters from my sideburns. Others didn’t want me to test the equipment but they couldn’t resist my art of persuasion!
All in all, the sellers at the salon equipment market were generally nice and welcoming. They don’t hassle you and follow you around the store like at other markets across Shanghai. Additionally, prices for the equipment were a lot cheaper than I thought. I do suggest paying a visit to the many shops in the area to check out their equipment and prices before making a final decision.
Oh, and one last thing, be careful walking the streets over at the salon equipment market; there are bicycles, E-bikes, and cars zooming back and forth all the time!
Directions: The Shanghai Salon Equipment Market is located in Puxi on Guangdong Road, less than 10-minutes walking distance from People's Square Station. Take Exit 1. You can try 632 Guangdong Road on Google Maps for reference. Here it is on Google Maps down below!
