Zhouzhuang Ancient Water Town, known as the “Venice of the East,” is renown throughout China. Located in the southeast region of Kunshan, the town withholds an AAAAA classification by the China National Tourism Association for its well-preserved ancient buildings amid beautiful, narrow canals.
Jinxi Ancient Water Town is another famous old town south of Kunshan. Just a 45-minute bus ride from Kunshan South Station, the water town is less crowded and offers more of a scenic atmosphere for tourists while straying away from the growing commercialism of Zhouzhuang, Kunshan’s most popular ancient town.
Jianhang Tai Chi Water Village is one of Kunshan’s lesser-known water towns and scenic attractions. There you’ll find a boatload of fairly old and semi-modern houses spread out around small ponds and large lakes.
Kunshan is notorious for its ancient water towns. There's Zhouzhuang Ancient Water Town, which is perhaps the most popular, Jinxi, and Qiandeng.
